Consumer Behaviors

The consumer’s behaviors are extremely wired. When I was working in the Macy’s as a personal shopper, my favorite part was to observe customer’s emotions. My manager used to emphasis everyday to us follow sales associated that, “a customer is much more likely to make purchase when they receive attention in the shopping places.” We had the “30 seconds rule” which was we should greet the customer within 30 seconds after they entered the door. And every each associate was trying hard to do that. Matter of a fact, I do think the manager’s theory makes some sense.
I remembered my main area was intimates apparel which was the most interesting department to me. I got to shop bras and under wears with ladies, and sometimes pajamas with gentlemen for their significant partner. For women, they need a lot of compliments. It’s surprising to see most women do not feel confident about their own bodies. All I have to do is to encourage them, and make them appreciate what they got. I could be a little bit pushy on most of the ladies, maybe not so much on guys. For guys, my favorite trick was to disagree with their choices first, give them some “honest” opinions, and talk about something only ladies would understand. You would surprise how much guys appreciate the different opinions. And I always made them ended up spending more, and surly for “better quality” stuff.
